With participation increasing annually since the first event was held in 2010, the Australian Outback Marathon is the destination marathon race, quickly cementing its place as a major highlight on the Australian running calendar.
Race organiser and sports tour operator, Travelling Fit, designed the event five years ago to be enjoyed by runners of all abilities, offering a full marathon, half marathon and two fun runs. With only 10% of the course plotted on sealed roads, most of the race course is set amongst trails and bush tracks.
With a record number of entrants already registered from over 20 countries, Voyages Executive General Manager Sales Marketing and Distribution Ray Stone is thrilled at the response and growing interest in this positive event.
“We are delighted to once again partner with race organiser and sports tour operator, Travelling Fit, in support of the Australian Outback Marathon as it positively promotes healthy living and engages interest and participation from the local Indigenous communities.
“The event is growing year-on-year with a record number of entrants already registered to run from over 20 countries, which is very positive,” says Ray Stone, Voyages Executive General Manager Sales Marketing and Distribution.
With the combined support of Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia and Travelling Fit, students from the local Pipalyatjara Anangu, Ernabella Anangu and Amata Schools are encouraged to partake in the event with annual sponsorship. This year, 66 places have been allocated to students from these local schools to participate in the fun run event.
Entry to the 2014 Australian Outback Marathon is still open, closing on Friday 11th July 2014.
