Novotel Vines In The Thick Of New Tourism Campaign

Western Australia’s Tourism Council is planning to promote the Swan Valley as one Perth’s major tourist
DSC_0018drawcards.

The Council is starting a campaign to promote its food and wine experiences and lifestyle benefits, according to recent media reports in WA. More than two million people visit the Swan Valley each year.
The campaign will centre on the Valley’s 80 wineries, a range of quality, family-run produce businesses and impressive cafes and restaurants, and the Novotel Swan Valley Vines Resort is situated perfectly to explore all that the valley has to offer.
From Easter Monday (April 21) onwards, The Novotel offers special rate of $175 per room per night, and this will also include a $50 dining voucher to be used at any dining facility for meals or drinks. This offer is valid until April 30, 2014.
DSC_0273The almost 25 year resort is entrenched deeply in the history, with ancient original vines, being uprooted during the construction of the Resort in 1996, removed and tended, then replanted around the grounds of the hotel again after completion.
This is the 180th anniversary of winemaking in the region this year, so grab a bargain few nights, and head to the hills to enjoy all it offers.
On return to your Resort hidden amongst the fairways, bunkers, and greens you can relax in the hot spa, swim a few lengths, have a hit of tennis or visit the Keishi Day Spa for some pampering.
Top your day off with some local wines, recognized worldwide brands such as Sandalford, Houghtons and Lamonts with a beautiful meal at Muscats restaurant.

London Cycle Hire bikes go yellow as countdown to Tour de France begins

To mark the occasion, the Mayor has released 101 special-edition yellow Cycle Hire bikes into general circulation across London. The 101 yellow bikes, which represent the 101st Tour de France to take place, will be available until the Tour arrives in London on the 7th July 2014.

With around 10,000 Cycle Hire bikes covering over 100km² of the capital, users have just over a 1 in 100 chance of hiring one of the special yellow bikes.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Much like the clamour for the golden tickets in Charlie and the Chocolate factory people across the capital will now be on a frantic search for these beautiful yellow bikes. I am sure Londoners will share my excitement at once again welcoming the Tour to London. Go find a yellow bike and dream of whizzing along the Champs-Élysées wearing the 67528-300x169Yellow Jersey. Chapeau!”
Cycling fans are expected to turn out en masse to see the Tour de France when it reaches London on 7th July 2014 as part of a three-day visit to Britain. 200 riders will set out from Cambridge, entering London through Epping Forest before completing a circuit of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. They will then ride through the East End before turning westwards along the Thames. Buckingham Palace will then form the backdrop to the climax of the three day event as riders sprint up The Mall.
It is seven years since London hosted the ‘Grand Depart’ of the Tour de France and the Mayor hopes that the capital will enjoy an economic windfall of tens of millions as a direct result of hosting the prestigious Tour once again.
Spectators will be able to watch the elite cycling action along the route and also at three official Tour de France fan parks sites at Green Park, Trafalgar Square and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The fan park sites will feature a wide range of different activities such as live Tour de France racing on the big screen, a French-style food market, a Tour de France Museum, interactive cycling activities, an outdoor cinema, live music, celebrity appearances and shops showcasing all of the latest bike equipment and accessories. Team London volunteers will also be on hand across all the fan park sites to help spectators with local travel information and directions.
The Mayor remains committed to ensuring London retains its status as the world capital of sport, but recognises the need for a balanced approach to ensure everyone can benefit from major events whilst keeping London moving. That is why he has set up a Major Events Oversight Board to assess and monitor the impact of major sporting events in the capital. This will ensure that any major events that we decide to host in our city will not only have a clear and demonstrable benefit to London, but also that any resulting disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum.
Christian Prudhomme, director of Le Tour, said: “The Grand Départ from Yorkshire will lead the world’s elite cyclists back to The Mall, seven years to the day after the Tour de France first came to London. We are proud to see that cycling and the Tour de France are being celebrated throughout the country.”
Leon Daniels, Managing Director of Surface Transport at Transport for London, said: “Not everyone is as athletic as the likes of Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish or Chris Froome to experience the rush of air at 50mph plus on tyres less than an inch wide. However, they can experience the same streets as the elite on one of these limited edition yellow Barclays Cycle Hire bikes. Go find one, go ride one, and get ready; because in 100 days le Tour returns.”
Sir Rodney, Chairman of TdFHUB2014 Ltd said: “The opening  three stages of the Tour will be the biggest ever free sporting event in Britain.  From the Yorkshire Dales to the Mall, via Cambridge, we are  ready to welcome the world this summer for what promises to be a fantastic sporting spectacle.”
The Tour starts its three day visit to Britain on Saturday July 5, with a 120-mile leg from Leeds to Harrogate via the Yorkshire Dales National Park. On day two, riders will go from York to Sheffield before travelling by car to Cambridge ready for the start of day three. The world’s greatest cyclists will then arrive in the capital via Essex.
If you spot one of our special yellow bikes between now and when the tour arrives tweet a picture to @TfLOfficial using #LDNyellowbike. For more information on the Tour de France and where to stay in London visit letourinlondon.com or follow @letourinlondon on Twitter.

Eco destination Dominica attracts luxury travellers

Recently ranked one of the top ten ethical countries in the world by Ethical Traveller, the small island nation of Dominica is fast becoming an exclusive destination for Caribbean travellers.

Whilst destinations such as Barbados and The Bahamas continue to be hugely popular, Dominica’s unspoiled natural beauty is proving a hit with travellers.
Hubert J. Winston, owner and managing director of Dominica Yacht Services, a destination management company spoke to Yachting Pages and said, “We have seen a steady increase in yachting arrivals into the ports of Roseau and Portsmouth every year for the last ten years. Business is great; we had a wonderful season and are already looking forward to 2015.”9a3ed3431461f594_800x800ar
Known as ‘Nature’s Island’, Dominica’s tropical rainforests, one of which is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites, cover two thirds of the island and are home to 1,200 plant species. With an abundance of rivers, lakes, streams, and waterfalls visitors are never far away from nature at its best. Hubert continued, “We focus on eco-tours because just travelling two minutes inland from the coast, you will find nature at its best. Dominica is truly a unique island. Visitors can take a high-energy hike up to our famous boiling lake and see a host of remote waterfalls including Victoria Falls, or opt for a more leisurely journey to the Trafalgar Falls or the Emerald Pool. You can even experience the beauty of Dominica’s verdant forests by taking a flora and fauna tour. There really is something for everyone.”
Not to be confused with its larger northerly sister, the Dominican Republic, Dominica sits midway between Guadeloupe and Martinique. At just 289 square miles, the majority of the island’s population resides in and around the port area of Roseau.
It is the youngest island in the Lesser Antilles, still being formed by geothermal-volcanic activity, as evidenced by the world's second-largest hot spring, Boiling Lake. Dominica is the only country in the world with a count of 365 rivers.
With a rich history and breath-taking landscapes, Dominica is a truly unique destination that combines eco tourism and luxury travel to give visitors an experience of a lifetime.
When talking to Yachting Pages, Hubert added, “I would say 2014 has been our best year to date”.
Dominica Yacht Services, the full service yachting and destination management company, was established in 2005 and offers comprehensive assistance for all sized yachts. They have previously worked with such luxury superyachts as M/Y Serene (133m), S/Y EOS (91m) and M/Y Alfa Nero (85m). Services include customs and immigration, island tours, chandlery and fuel bunkering, among others.

TAT organises Thailand for Two A Romance Symposium for top honeymoon agents

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pressing ahead with its plans to position the kingdom as one
unnamed (1)of the world’s top honeymoon destinations, a positioning that has recently been affirmed via Google which ranked Thailand as the fifth in the world for people using the Internet to seek out a romantic setting for their honeymoons1.

TAT executives and delegates attending the Thailand for Two – A Romance Symposium in Bangkok on 24 March, 2014
TAT this week welcomes 14 top honeymoon agents from the US, Canada and Latin America and a representative from The Knot, a leading honeymoon magazine in the US, attending the “Thailand for Two – A Romance Symposium” fam trip in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket during 21 March – 1 April, 2014.
Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas) of TAT said, “We started to tap into the honeymoon segment in these three markets a few years back by building relationships with specialised honeymoon agents. To date, our list of honeymoon agents in the US alone has grown from just a few to 1,600. This fam trip is just a part of our many activities to showcase Thailand as one of the world’s top honeymoon destinations to these lucrative long-haul markets.”
Apart from gaining first-hand experience on a wide variety of Thailand’s luxury travel offers that make the kingdom so alluring for couples, the delegates are also sharing their knowledge about the honeymoon segment in their respective markets with hotels and honeymoon tour operators in the three major Thai cities.
During the first symposium, held in Bangkok on 24 March, 2014, the delegates praised Thailand for the “high touch” service and its wealth of unique hotels and resorts.  Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket are singled out as the most popular honeymoon destinations for couples from the US, Canada and Latin America.
unnamedThe growth in the number of private luxury pool villas, as well as unique hotels, available in many parts of Thailand is also pointed out as a major draw for couples seeking a romantic setting for their honeymoons.
The honeymoon agents will also be sharing their first-hand knowledge on dealing with honeymoon couples in the US, Canada and Latin America markets in Chiang Mai and Phuket. They will share their views at the second Thailand for Two – A Romance Symposium in Chiang Mai on 27 March, 2014, and in Phuket on 31 March, 2014.
In 2013, Thailand welcomed a total of 1,170,642 visitors from the Americas market, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.05 per cent. Of the total, the USA market contributed 826,350 visitors (up 7.51 per cent) and Canada contributed 230,082 visitors (up 4.89 per cent).

Aleenta Hua Hin Adds Lush Three-Bedroom Private Villa with Butler to Rental Pool Mix

Aleenta Hua Hin-Pranburi Resort and Spa just became bigger and better, adding a lavish private beachfront villa with three spacious bedrooms to its selection of beachfront villas and suites.

The standard-bearer of upscale barefoot luxury, Aleenta Hua Hin continues its award-winning transformation from Thailand's original boutique resort to a beacon of innovation and style.
Having steered Aleenta Hua Hin to its 10th anniversary last year, owner Anchalika Kijkanakorn this year leapt upon an opportunity to take over management of a stunning neighbouring villa, which would "substantially deepen our rental pool," she said.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom villa is fully serviced with a private chef and butler and boasts a Full Kitchen, a Dining Room, an outside Dining Balcony, a large Infinity Swimming Pool and a parking area.unnamed (4)
Its also includes gardens onto the beach, oceans views from each room, an upstairs Tanning Deck and convenience (it is only 300m from Aleenta's main wing). The villa further boasts Aleenta décor and style, which means it has wooden furnishings, lush linens, iPod docks and luxuriant rain showers.
During the high season, the villa costs THB19,000++ per night, with a peak rate of THB28,000++, while in the low season it costs THB15,000++ per night.
The acquisition is further sign of Ms Kijkanakorn's quest to offer guests an enhanced experience in keeping with the pioneering spirit of AHMS The Collection, the group she founded and heads.
It is a journey that began when she returned to Thailand after more than a decade working in the finance industry in Europe. What started as a family beach house was turned into a 24-room boutique resort owned and managed by AHMS The Collection and set on a pristine beach enveloped in an unspoilt environment.
Ms Kijkanakorn is also Chairman of the Board of Small Luxury Hotels of the World - the first woman, Thai and Asian to hold the prestigious position. "Our growth and success comes down to the ongoing striving to understand and anticipate what guests want. That is what keeps them coming back," Ms Kijkanakorn added.
Aleenta Hua Hin delivers gourmet organic food sourced from the resort's 50-rai organic farm and buys local fisherman's catch from the line, not trawled.
"It's been a labour of love turning Aleenta Hua Hin into one of Asia's premier luxury boutique resorts," Ms Kijkanakorn said. "So many of our loyal guests have been coming here so long we now think of them as family."

Thailand to offer more incentives to film producers

Thailand is in the process of developing more incentives for international film makers in a bid to further strengthen the kingdom’s reputation as one of the world’s best film locations.

One of the most recent films shot here was the Hollywood blockbuster, The Coup, staring Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan, which was made partly in Chiang Mai in late 2013.
The new initiatives are part of a scheme developed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Department of Tourism (DOT) to offer incentives to international film makers to choose Thailand as a location for film shoots.unnamed (6)
Ms. Ubolwan Sucharitakul, Director of DOT said, “We are offering a one-stop service to make it easier for international film makers to shoot their films in Thailand. We are also organising several road shows overseas to raise the profile of the kingdom as a country with the readiness, skills and expertise to help film makers.
“We want to show how Thailand truly is one of the best locations in the world to make movies and to encourage more movie-making, so we are offering incentives; such as, tax exemptions for foreign movie actors who starred in films shot in the kingdom.”
To ensure there is a one-stop shop for film makers, the DOT is collaborating with the relevant public and private organisations, including the Customs Department, Department of Employment, Department of Fine Arts, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Royal Household Bureau, Airports of Thailand, Foreign Film Production Executives Association and the Thai Film Board. With these departments and organisations working together, the often complex process of permits and permission needed in the film making process can be streamlined.
Other initiatives include a series of training sessions and seminars to educate local film crew co-ordinators about the collaboration unnamed (7)with foreign film crews well as pre- and post-shooting techniques to ensure a smooth and efficient production.
In 2013, Thailand attracted a total of 269 film crew co-ordinators comprising 185 companies and 84 individuals. An additional 71 film crew co-ordinators have approached the DOT with enquiries about film shooting in Thailand in 2014.
Some 717 foreign film productions came to Thailand to shoot movies in 2013, generating around 2.17 billion Baht. The Indian film industry was the biggest market with over 150 titles, followed by Japan with 140 titles. These are not all feature films but made up of 356 promotional videos, 150 documentaries, 107 television shows and 47 music videos.
Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik, TAT Governor said, “International film production in Thailand both directly and indirectly helps to showcase the kingdom as one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations and attracts further visitors who might want to experience the film location themselves.
“For example, following the release of the hit Chinese movie, Lost in Thailand, which was filmed in Chiang Mai, many Chinese travellers came to Thailand to see the film location, and several airlines have actually had to introduce new direct routes and increase flight numbers between several Chinese cities and Chiang Mai itself.”

Annual Pentecost land diving festival returns to Vanuatu

image006From April until the end of June on the island of Pentecost in Vanuatu, intrigued travellers flock to see the annual Naghol Land Diving Festival, a ritual credited with starting the bungee jumping craze.

During the festival, local land divers tie vines to their ankles and leap from a purpose built wooden tower with the aim of gently grazing their shoulders on the ground, the reality is an exhilarating display of courage as young men jump from towers almost 30 metres high. There are many myths about how the Naghol ceremony came about with a popular one claiming it was to ensure a image005bountiful yam harvest with divers blessing the soil with their shoulders and today land diving is a rite of passage for young men on Pentecost.
image004The tradition is believed to have started nearly 15 centuries ago and today these 20-30 metre towers are still built with branches, vines and tree trunks, taking around five weeks to construct.
The festival draws tourists every Saturday between April and June and while the diving is restricted to local people the island comes alive with music and dancing creating a memorable festival experience.
For travellers who are keen on seeing the traditional bungee, Adventure World is offering a four night package to Vanuatu from $1,889*pp ex Sydney inclusive of return airfares with Air Vanuatu, four nights at the beautiful Iririki Island Resort, full buffet breakfast daily and an incredible Pentecost Land Diving Day Trip with return flights to Pentecost Island (*terms and conditions apply).

New name and logo heralds new era for Kakadu Tourism

Yellow Water Cruises

Gagudju Dreaming, operators of a variety of Kakadu businesses including the Crocodile Hotel, Cooinda Lodge, Yellow Water Cruises and Spirit of Kakadu Adventure Tours, is relaunching as Kakadu Tourism.

The change of name is designed to make it easier for international and domestic tourists to identify the hotel and tourism products offered by the group, and will complement the change of hotel management (as of 1 April 2014) from IHG to Accor at the Crocodile Hotel and Cooinda Lodge.
“Gagudju is a traditional way of saying Kakadu in some parts of the Top End, but for the industry it was often confusing,” says Rex Wild, Chair of Kakadu Tourism.
“Kakadu is known around the world as one of the great names in adventure and cultural tourism and in an era of digital and online search, there is an even greater priority to be clear and as straight-forward as possible. With the change of hotel management taking place at the end of March, we thought it time to consolidate the various entities under the one name – Kakadu Tourism.
“We have been introducing the new name at trade events such as the recent NT Muster, and we will be particularly showcasing the new organisation and product at ATE in May.
“Kakadu might have been off the tourism radar for a while, but with a new team on board and a whole new energy and direction, we are looking forward to re-introducing operators to the wonders of Kakadu and welcoming back their clients to our hotels and tourism experiences.”
Kakadu Tourism comprises the Crocodile Hotel at Jabiru, some 2½ hours drive south east of Darwin, and Cooinda Lodge, which is located next to the Yellow Water Billabong and is part of a hotel/tourism operation that includes the 48 room Lodge as well as a large camping site, the award-winning Yellow Water Cruises, Yellow Water Fishing, Spirit of Kakadu Adventure Tours, a general store, fuel station and the Warradjan Cultural Centre.
The hotels were the first major tourism properties developed in Australia by an Indigenous organisation. The Crocodile Hotel opened in 1988, shortly after the Crocodile Dundee films put the international tourism spotlight on the Kakadu region and its spectacular natural attractions.

New premium airline lounge for Queenstown Airport

Qantas international premium passengers passing through Queenstown Airport will be able to enjoy the benefits of a stunning new airline lounge from early July.

Aviation ground-handling company PlaneBiz has signed an agreement with Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) to fit out and manage the lounge on behalf of Qantas and its partner airlines.
The Manaia Lounge - which translates as Protector of Land, Sea and Sky in Maori - will cater for up to 75 guests and offer uninterrupted views of Queenstown’s world-famous Remarkables mountain range. Qantas taking off from Queenstown Airport
Features will include comfortable and stylish furnishings, dedicated bathrooms, complimentary WiFi, newspapers, hot and cold beverages including bar service, and freshly prepared food.
The lounge will be located on the first floor of the terminal building, replacing the existing Airport Administration office which will move into a new space on the ground floor next to baggage reclaim in mid-May.  PlaneBiz will then complete an eight-week fitout and open its doors in time for the region’s peak ski season.
Frank Ryder, Director of PlaneBiz, says the initiative has been driven by strong demand.
"The lounge we operate in Christchurch has been performing extremely well so when Qantas signalled increased commitment to Queenstown we jumped at the chance to provide a similar facility.  The icing on the cake will be having one of the best airport views in New Zealand - it will give it a real wow factor.”
QAC CEO Scott Paterson welcomes the move and says the lounge complements the airport’s aim to provide world-class facilities and an outstanding passenger experience.
“With Qantas going daily between Sydney and Queenstown this winter and the new Emirates alliance opening us up to further long-haul markets, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to offer premium facilities to these travellers.
“It will also free up some space in the terminal which will assist with passenger flows and allow us to comfortably host more visitors during our busy winter months.”

Landmark Algonquin Resort Welcomes First Guest Following Expansive Renovation

Officials with New Castle Hotels and Resorts, Southwest Properties and Marriott International, Inc.
(NASDAQ: MAR)  unveiled the greatly anticipated renovation to New Brunswick's landmark Algonquin Resort

The iconic resort is the nation's first Autograph Collection hotel, Marriott International’s exclusive portfolio of independent hotels. The Southwest/New Castle team purchased the hotel from the provincial government in 2012 to undertake the "rafters to registration" refurbishment.
“To those of us who hail from this part of the country, the Algonquin is more than just a hotel, it is part of our heritage, our history," said Jim Spatz, chairman and CEO of Southwest Properties.  "It's where generations of Canadians have come to make memories with family and friends, and we took that responsibility very seriously as we set out to restore this treasure to its rightful place among our nation's very best.  The challenge was to preserve the authenticity of the historic hotel while simultaneously meeting modern building standards, as well as guest expectations for luxurious accommodations. Guests will judge for themselves, but I dare say they'll be impressed."
“We are thrilled to welcome The Algonquin into our exceptional portfolio of independent hotels," said Manlio Marescotti, vice president for Marriott International, speaking at the event.  "With its remarkable sense of place, this extraordinary hotel represents an ideal opportunity to introduce the Autograph Collection to Canada.”
The vision behind the Autograph Collection is to offer an evolving group of passionately independent hotel experiences ranging from a 15-room boutique hunting lodge in the mountains of Colorado to a 19th century neoclassical palace in the majestic city of Prague.  Exactly like nothing else, each hotel is thoughtfully chosen for its quality, originality, bold character and capacity to offer today’s modern traveler a range of unique experiences suited to their individual sense of style and adventure. While still relatively new, the distinct portfolio has proven to be a highly successful venture due to its discerning selection process and unique ability to create memories through enriching travel experiences.
The Algonquin's guest rooms and public spaces were completely reimagined by Toronto designer, Robynne Moncur of Moncur Design.  The hotel's décor reflects, without recreating, its Victorian origins, with a gracious, living room-style lobby that invites lingering around the two-sided fireplace.  The lounge and newly-inspired Braxton's restaurant now open to an outdoor patio that allows guests the chance to take in the spectacular nightly sunsets.
With the renovation, the Algonquin is now more welcoming to year round visitors.  Guest baths now feature radiant heat flooring to increase guest comfort in the winter and the hotel's brand new Natatorium includes a three-story waterslide and fitness center. The luxurious spa has been expanded to include a salon.
“The Algonquin served visitors for more than a century, and with this renovation, it's legacy going forward is assured,"  said Trevor Holder, New Brunswick’s culture, tourism and healthy living minister. “Our beloved landmark is in excellent hands as it pursues the next chapter in its far-reaching history."
“This has been a tremendous undertaking on the part of so many; the Province, hundreds of crafts and tradespeople, the town of St. Andrews, and of course the new owners, and the results are spectacular," said Curtis Malloch, MLA, Charlotte-Campobello.
"Over the years, we've developed a passion for Canada's most original hotels and the history they represent," said David Buffam, New Castle's CEO who rescued the shuttered Nova Scotian in 1995 and repositioned it as the country's first Westin franchise.  Shortly thereafter, the Province of Nova Scotia engaged New Castle to operate its three owned historic resorts, the Keltic Lodge, The Pines in Digby and the Liscombe Lodge. "Projects such as these are the pride of a developer's portfolio. Having the opportunity to set the course for the Algonquin's next century of service is truly an extraordinary mission for everyone involved."
“The Algonquin's management team is led by one of the most creative hoteliers I've ever met," said Gerry Chase, president and chief operating officer of New Castle.  “During the pre-opening phase, Tim Ostrem and his team earned a reputation for putting their distinctive signature on special events and day-to-day operations that guests will appreciate as authentic and truly engaging.   They've incorporated the Charlotte Coastal Region into every aspect of this resort, from the food that's served to the activities and programming that are planned.  Every detail of a guest's stay has been imagined through a regional lens to create an experience that is as unique as this hotel and the community around it."
The 233-room Algonquin Resort overlooks the picturesque Passamaquoddy Bay from St. Andrews-by-the Sea, New Brunswick, Canada.  Each guest room and suite was carefully renovated to reflect The Algonquin’s original Victorian style.   Modern conveniences and amenities include luxurious pillow-top mattresses, plush bathrobes, MP3 players, 32-inch flat screen televisions, in-room coffee and complimentary, in-room movies and WiFi. The 17 suites provide a separate, private seating area, and select guestrooms and suites feature a spacious balcony or patio.
The resort features two restaurants, Braxton's Restaurant and Bar and the Clubhouse, as well as in-room and anyplace dining, 19,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, a lounge with outdoor patio, fire pits with loaner guitars, an indoor pool and waterslide, outdoor pool and hot tub.  Now in its second century of service, the Algonquin also is home to the award-winning seaside Algonquin Golf Course, opening in April.  Ranked among Canada's top 100 courses and adjacent to the Bay of Fundy, the Algonquin Golf Course is home to two of the top ten golf tees in Canada.
