101 Best Hotels in the World for 2012

The inclusion of a raft of Australian hotels in Tatler magazine’s list of the “101 Best Hotels in the World” for 2012 has been welcomed by Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy as firm evidence of the growing quality of the country’s tourism offering.

No less than eight Australian hotel properties have been included in the 2012 Tatler Travel Guide, which lists the UK lifestyle magazine’s favourite hotels and holiday destinations chosen from around the world:
Blue Mountains Private Safaris – Blue Mountains, NSW
Deux Belettes – Dalwood, Northern NSW
Hayman Island- Great Barrier Reef, Queensland
Lizard Island - Great Barrier Reef, Queensland
Makepeace Island –Noosa, Queensland
Wildman Wilderness Lodge – Kakadu, Northern Territory
Mona Pavilions – Hobart, Tasmania
Lake House – Daylesford, Victoria
“It’s great that Australia’s tourism product is getting talked up in this way,” Mr McEvoy said.

“The inclusion of no less than eight of our top hotels in Tatler’s top 101 list dispels the myth perpetuated by some commentators that the quality of Australia’s tourism offering is not world class, when the facts continue to show we deliver on global leading product.

“Australia has long had and continues to offer accommodation options which rank amongst the best in the world, and it’s always pleasing and important to see such properties getting the international recognition which they deserve. New news on the breadth of quality Australian tourism offerings in the competitive global tourism market place is also vital to ensure our industry keeps on growing.

“These eight properties clearly represent world’s best in Australia, and it is exactly these sorts of exceptional tourism experiences that allow us to demonstrate to the rest of the world why there truly is nothing quite like Australia,” he said.

The 2012 travel guide is included in the January edition of the Tatler Travel Magazine, currently available in the UK.

It's been an exceptional start to the year for Australian hotels. Eleven of the country's best properties have been included in UK Condé Nast Gold List for 2012: Capella Lodge, Blue Sydney, Longitude 131°, Saffire Freycinet, Southern Ocean Lodge, Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, Cape Lodge, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney, The Henry Jones Art Hotel and Qualia.

And Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report also features three Australian hotels in its prestigious 2012 Grand Awards. Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island has been included as the ‘Hideaway of the Year' and The Louise Barossa Valley and Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa also listed as Asia/Pacific Grand Award winners – a list of only 18 awards.
